About Us
Since the foundation of our family enterprise by late Sheik Abdool Said Maudary in the early 1970s, we have significantly expanded our operations through the continuous adoption of innovation and technology.
Our story
SM Group has grown from a small convenience store which opened in Port Louis shortly after the country’s Independence into a multi-faceted business enterprise. We kicked off our diversification strategy at the turn of the millennium with the launch in the capital in 2001 of the first of our four mobile, gaming and multimedia stores.

We have also been involved since 2020 in the importation and distribution of professional hair, skin, nail care and beauty products and accessories. From 2023, we further embraced digitalisation through an online shopping platform to deliver a complete, integrated experience for Mauritian customers.

Shamim Maudary
Founder and Director
Shamim is a visionary entrepreneur and a self-starter who leads SM Group with an organised, results-driven mentality, always striving for top-tier quality and client satisfaction. He guides his team with a compassionate approach to people management and a high-spirited attitude. A Chartered Institute of Marketing graduate, his attention to detail is rivalled only by his appreciation of the finer things in life. He is known for getting the job done, without compromise.
Anisah Maudary
Co-Director/HR Head
Anisah’s interest in hiring and grooming talent has been part of her life for a long time. Now, her aim is to give her all to help her husband, Shamim with the development of SM Group. Using her previous knowledge of the retail industry, she works to find solutions that will bring entrepreneurial success. She puts her excellent interpersonal skills and enthusiasm to great use to ensure the human capital of the Group contributes effectively to the achievement of its business objectives.
